How to Rent a Dumpster in Amarillo: The Complete Process Start to Finish
Never rented a dumpster before? Here is exactly what happens from your first call to final pickup — no surprises, no hidden steps.
How to Rent a Dumpster in Amarillo: The Complete Process Start to Finish
If you've never rented a dumpster before, you might be wondering what the process actually looks like. Is it complicated? Do you need a permit? How fast can you get one? What happens when you're done?
The good news: renting from Amarillo Dumpster Rentals is straightforward. Here's exactly what happens from start to finish.
Step 1: Figure Out What You Need
Before you call or book online, take a few minutes to think through your project:
- What are you throwing away? Household junk, construction debris, yard waste, and furniture all go in a standard dumpster. Some items — like paint, tires, and appliances with Freon — require special handling. See our complete list of prohibited items if you're unsure.
- How much do you have? We specialize in 15 yard dumpsters, which hold 6 to 8 pickup truck loads of debris. That covers most home cleanouts, renovation projects, and roofing jobs. Not sure if a 15 yarder is right for your project? Our dumpster size guide breaks it down.
- How long do you need it? We offer 3, 7, 14, and 30-day rental periods. Most homeowners are done in a weekend. Contractors often keep one on-site for the duration of a job.
Step 2: Book Your Dumpster
You have two easy ways to reserve:
Option A — Call us: (806) 274-8579 Talk to a real person, get your questions answered, and lock in your delivery date. If you call before noon on a weekday, we can often deliver the same day.
Option B — Book online: amarillodumpsterrentals.com/book Pick your delivery date, rental period, and drop-off address. Takes about two minutes. You'll get a confirmation right away.
Either way, we'll confirm your delivery window and answer any questions about placement or access.
Step 3: Prepare Your Drop-Off Spot
Before delivery day, pick a spot for the dumpster. A few things to keep in mind:
- Driveways work great. Most customers put the dumpster in their driveway — it's close to the house and keeps it off the street.
- Leave enough clearance. We need about 22 feet of overhead clearance for delivery (watch for low-hanging tree branches or power lines).
- Street placement is possible. If your driveway won't work, we can place the dumpster on the street. Some neighborhoods require a permit for street placement — check with the City of Amarillo if you're unsure.
- Protect your driveway (optional). If you're concerned about the dumpster scratching your concrete or asphalt, lay down a few pieces of plywood where the wheels will sit.
Step 4: We Deliver and Place the Dumpster
On your scheduled delivery day, we bring the dumpster to your address and place it exactly where you want it. The whole drop-off takes about 10 minutes.
We'll position it so the door swings open toward your work area, making it easy to walk debris straight in rather than lifting everything over the side.
If anything comes up — a gate that won't open, a car in the way, a last-minute change of plans — just call us and we'll work it out.
Step 5: Load It Up
This is the part you handle. A few tips to get the most out of your rental:
- Break things down. Flatten cardboard boxes, disassemble furniture, and cut long boards to fit. You'll fit significantly more in the dumpster if items aren't taking up air space.
- Load heavy items first. Put heavy debris on the bottom. Lighter items like wood, drywall, and household junk go on top. Note: we do not accept concrete, dirt, brick, or railroad ties.
- Don't overfill. Everything must sit at or below the top edge of the dumpster — nothing can stick up above the rim. This is a safety and transportation requirement. If you have more than expected, give us a call and we'll figure out a solution.
- Keep prohibited items out. Hazardous materials, paint, tires, and certain appliances cannot go in the dumpster. Check our prohibited items guide if you have anything questionable.
Step 6: Call for Pickup When You're Done
When your dumpster is full or your project is complete, just give us a call at (806) 274-8579 or let us know through your booking. We'll schedule a pickup time that works for you.
You don't have to wait until the end of your rental period — if you finish early, we'll come get it early. No need to pay for days you don't use.
Step 7: We Haul It Away
We show up, hook up the dumpster, and haul it off. The whole pickup takes about 10 minutes. You don't need to be home — as long as we can access the dumpster, we'll take care of the rest.
We handle all disposal responsibly. Recyclable materials are separated where possible, and everything is disposed of in compliance with Texas regulations.
That's it. Your property is clear, the dumpster is gone, and the job is done.
